This is a beautiful high mountain shrub, flowering with whitish flowers, somewhaat bigger than those of escalonia alpina. It can be easily grown as a bonsai-type tree because of its low height and propensity to grow wide. This shrub grows at higher elevations, and frequently it forms the upper limit of timber line in the mountains. It prefers some protection against the sun and places with a lot of humidity, usually occupying the borders of small brooks.
